What can you do while waiting!

TOWARD an ALBERTA MODEL of WELLNESS states "Recovery Happens between People - Recovery-oriented systems of care emphasize the importance of bringing family and allies into systems of care, in order to build a recovery community around individuals in need of support. Greater community, family, friend, peer and spiritual involvement may contribute to a whole-sysytem approach to supporting individuals in need."

FAMILY AND SUPPORTS are important to build a recovery community!

Mental Health conversations are happening. CAMH called me today regarding mental health which led to deeper conversations such as the wait lists of 6 months or more to see a professional. Waiting is difficult for the family members and loved ones struggling with mental health.

WHAT IF? the family was to check the situations listed on a Checklist of 23 Chartacteristics of Family Dynmaics to see what could be worked on while waiting.

Cool Family Solutions has compiled this list to be completed by participants attending our 10-week Families Helping Families sessions. When families checked the situations that they were trying to manage ranged from 5 - 15. WEEK 5, the family members did the list again to see how they were progressing. Participants were surprised that there were less checked on their list.

Our strength-based approach shifts the focus to what clients can do, what they have achieved, and how they can grow.

Being on a wait list is difficult, WHAT IF you could change something to lessen the pain of one or more situations, how would you feel and how would this affect the family while waiting? Email Mona for the list - mona.cooley@coolfamilysolutions.com for you to assess your situation.
